  Mallorca Main Attractions

The centrepiece of its beautiful historic quarter with grand Renaissance mansions and Baroque churches is its Gothic cathedral which took over 500 years to build and as an attraction compares favourably with the better known cathedrals of Spain

Its a fascinating island to stroll around with magnificent architecture, a few "must see" attractions and a selection of art galleries that makes it the envy of of other European cultural centres.

  Cathedral of Palma
Palma is the cathedral La Seu that rises like a bright mountain over the harbour of the city. The bishop's church, one of the five most beautiful in Spain, is the pride and joy of the Majorcans. The legend says that it owes its construction to a king's vow. In 1229, Jaime of Aragon set out to free the Balearic Islands from the Arabs. The crossing was ill-fated. His fleet was struck by a terrible storm.

Valldemossa: St. Bartomeu and the Monastery
Most characteristic are the church St. Bartomeu and the Monastery. The reason why it is so famous is definitely the visit from Frédéric Chopin in 1838. The ailing genius came to the island with his mistress, George Sand, who described the joys and sufferings of this wet-cold winter stay in Palma and the Monastery of Valldemossa in her book "A winter in Mallorca".
